Retired Clarksville businessman, Bouldin MacLean Crowder, 96, passed away at his home after a short illness on February 6, 2010. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ward Crowder with whom he enjoyed sixty-nine years of marriage. Mac was born on September 17, 1913 in Abbeyville, Virginia. He moved to Clarksville with his parents and two sisters, Elizabeth and Eleanor, as a child before moving to Blacksburg, Virginia as a young man. He was employed at Virginia Tech as the Assistant Book Store Manager where he met and married his wife. He continued working there for several years before returning to Clarksville in 1946 at his family's request to help his father run the Crowder Brothers Store. Mac managed the family business for 38 years until his retirement in 1984. He was an active resident of Clarksville, a past member of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Town Council for 16 years. He supported numerous charities, including his favorites, the SPCA and the Clarksville Museum. Mac was a strong Christian and lifelong member of the Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 96 years. He sang in the choir for many years and had a deep abiding faith and love of his church, its members and their minister, many of whom visited him on a regular basis and provided food, conversation and caring attitudes for his health and well being. Mac will be remembered for his wit, his love of life and his tremendous knowledge of Clarksville's history. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Clarksville community and the faithful caretakers who gave many years of dedicated service to Mac and his wife, Lib. Mac is survived by 5 nieces, Elizabeth M. Hueske, Cynthia M. Rogers, Debra W. Hunter, Cynthia R. Wright, and Barbara R. Hall, as well as a host of great nieces and nephews. Rev. Walt Westbrook will officiate the funeral service at 2pm Friday, February 19, 2010, at Jamieson Memorial United Methodist Church and interment will follow immediately in Oakhurst Cemetery.
